The master of anticipation

I’ve been reading a bunch of Donald Crews books. And oh boy, have I learned a lot so far.

He is the MASTER of anticipation. He can build tension with anything — a carousel about to start, a long journey for a truck, a parade.

And he can craft an entire emotional arc using just objects. By zooming in on the small moments, he makes us feel like a part of the big picture.

His books are minimalist and efficient. You can bet that he’ll use every tool he can to immerse you in the story.

Like the typography — here he uses it to create a sense of depth and build anticipation for something lurking around the corner.

And here he uses typography to create an image — and the absence of it for a negative space cloud. So cool!

I hope you’ll check out his books, because they are incredible.
